Theodore Patkos is a Principal Researcher (Grade B) at FORTH-ICS. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Crete since 2010 studying formal methods for commonsense reasoning in dynamic environments. In the past, he also worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Laboratoire Images, Signaux et Systèmes Intelligents (LiSSi) in Paris, France. He received his degree in Computer Science from the Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a MSc degree from the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete.
Theodore Patkos has extensive expertise in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially on Classical AI (Symbolic/Logic-based AI using formal methods). His research touches upon basic and applied aspects of AI and revolves around the fields of knowledge representation and non-monotonic reasoning, logic programming, contextual, causal and commonsense reasoning, computational argumentation, and rational software agents, with application in Cognitive and Social Robotics, Ambient Intelligence, human-machine interaction and collective intelligence. He has served as PI and as a researcher in European and national projects, and supervised or co-supervised more than 30 PhD, MSc and Graduate students. He has co-authored more than 70 scientific papers in peer-reviewed books, journals and conferences, including TPLP, AMAI, IJCAI, KR, AAMAS and LPAR, receiving 5 best paper and 1 best poster awards. He is a member of the Hellenic Association for Artificial Intelligence (EETN) and a visiting instructor at the post-graduate program of the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete, Greece.
